WHAT IS EL TALLER: THE POTTING STUDIO?
WHAT IS EL TALLER: THE POTTING STUDIO?
El Taller is our hands-on potting studio inside Diego Austin Talavera - a creative space where guests can choose a hand painted Talavera pot, select succulents or plants, and create a planted piece to take home.
Inspired by the Spanish word for "the workshop," El Taller is designed to be part studio, part gathering table, part design experience. Guests can drop in for a simple planting project, book a guided potting experience, or reserve the space for a private gathering, client event, birthday, team outing, or creative workshop.
We'll help you choose the right pot, plants, soil, and finishing details, then guide you through the process at your own pace. No gardening experience is needed - just a little time, curiosity, and a willingness to get your hands in the soil.
Each piece is personal: a mix of Puebla's Talavera tradition, California plant life, and your own sense of style.
DO I NEED A RESERVATION?
DO I NEED A RESERVATION?
Reservations are recommended, especially for groups, private gatherings, or weekend visits. Walk-ins are welcome when space is available.
El Taller is designed to be flexible - you can drop in to create your own planted Talavera piece, or you can reserve the table for a more guided potting experience with friends, family, clients, or a private event.
For groups of 4 or more, we suggest booking ahead so we can prepare your table, materials and plant selection.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Most El Taller potting experiences take about 45 - 90 minutes, depending on the size of the piece you select and how detailed you want to get.
A simple drop-in planting may take less than an hour, while private groups and more guided workshops are typically planned as a 90-minute to 2-hour experience so there's time to choose pottery, select plants, design your arrangement, learn basic care tips and if time allows, learn about the history of Talavera and its roots in Puebla, Mexico.
CAN KIDS PARTICIPATE?
CAN KIDS PARTICIPATE?
Yes! Kids can participate with an adult.
El Taller is a hands-on potting experience, so younger guests may need help choosing plants, handling soil, and arranging their piece. We recommend adult supervision for children, especially when working with ceramic pottery, small tools, cactus, or more delicate succulents.
For kids' group, birthdays or family workshops, we're happy to help guide the experience and suggest age-appropriate plants and containers

CAN WE BRING OUR OWN FOOD AND BEVERAGE TO A BOOKED/PRIVATE EVENT?
Yes. For booked private events, guests may bring their own light food and beverages.

Because El Taller is a hands-on potting space, we ask that food and drinks stay in designated areas and that all outside items be approved in advance.

TALAVERA CARE
TALAVERA CARE
Talavera is durable and meant to be enjoyed, but it should be handled with care. For planted pieces, make sure your pot has proper drainage layer, and avoid letting water sit inside the pot for long periods.
For outdoor use, Talavera does best in mild climates and protected areas. Avoid freezing temperatures, as water absorbed into ceramic or soil can expand and cause cracking.
To clean simply wipe with a soft damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers, and sudden extreme temperature changes.
